The healing orb does 65 healing per second for a total of 300 health. The orbs can heal/damage any number of targets at a single time and can go through barriers. I was on the point and kept shooting the healing orb out to my teammates and made sure that I stayed on top of it as well to soak up as much healing as possible.
Standing on the point and facing out towards the enemy spawn, the room is out towards the first choke and to the left.
For me this was on Horizon Lunar Colony on Defense, so naturally I shot it into the room where everyone on attack usually goes through to flank. The way that I drained the purple orb was to shoot it into a room where I knew the enemy would be. According to the wiki, the damage orb can deal up to 200 damage and the healing orb can heal up to 300 damage. The orbs only have a predetermined amount of healing or damage that they can deal, so depleting an orb just means letting it do damage/heal until it "drains".
